3.10 Behaviour Management
Welcome to chapter 10 of the 'Planning and Delivering Learning' module. This chapter will discuss the necessary, but difficult-to-master, concept of Behaviour Management. We have already discussed some of the theories which relate to this in module 1, but this chapter will focus on practical strategies in real-life classroom settings, as well as examining the root causes for certain types of uncooperative behaviour.
Goals for this section
- To understand the core concepts of 'behaviour management' from seminal theories and to be able to match suitable techniques to relevant types of behaviour.
Objectives for this section
- To be able to explain how key techniques to manage behaviour operate.
- To be able to identify the kinds of techniques which are thought to be most effective with specific behaviours.
- To understand that there are often underlying causes for certain types of behaviour and to confidently devise strategies for dealing with these which are tailored to individual learners' needs and attributes.
