5.2 Reflective Practice

Welcome to chapter 2 of the 'Best practice in teaching' module. In this slightly larger chapter (split into two distinct sections), we're going to explore the concept of reflective practice. This is a key element of modern teaching practice, and as this chapter will demonstrate, a great way to help you learn and develop your own practice throughout your teaching career.

Goals for this section

  • To understand how reflective practice operates and to understand the benefits of taking a reflective approach.

Objectives for this section

  • To be able to explain the structures of different reflective models.
  • To be able to identify appropriate incidents for reflection and to extricate key ideas from these to explore.
  • To be able to utilise reflective techniques and models to critically evaluate your own teaching practice, linking this back to wider educational theory wherever this is relevant.
